A Review of Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wings

taking flight by kelly rae roberts 240x300 Book Review: Taking Flight by Kelly Rae RobertsThis book is by Kelly Rae Roberts, a megastar in the mixed media/collage art world. She didn’t start painting until she was in her 30s and within about 5 years she had her painting everywhere and was licensing her art on everything.
I didn’t even know who she was until I found this book by chance in the bookstore. After looking at the gorgeous images I just had to buy it. Then I got home and realized that I had one of her book markers hanging on my fridge, being used as a magnet.
I bought this book a couple of years ago and I’ve read every page at least twice. She’s a very inspirational writer and makes the reader really feel like we can accomplish the same stuff she has. That’s her writing style, like a really good friend giving you a pep talk and supporting you all the way.
The techniques she teaches are also wonderful. I incorporated some of the techniques into my art and found that my collages improved a lot with the new techniques. I love the author’s artwork and the “guest” artists’ work is also lovely.
The book has a gorgeous layout overall, with every page a beautiful piece of artwork in itself. There are also some journaling pages where you can write your own thoughts and ideas. Every time I look at the pages in the book I get really inspired about creating more collage artwork. It’s one of my favorite books in my art journaling library.
