Willowing at Ning Art
I have been a member of Willowing for about 3 or 4 years now. It’s a free membership site at Ning.com and it’s run by Tam, a woman from England who makes the most gorgeous whimsical artwork.
I like looking at all of her artwork and also the artwork that other members post. I have a couple of my images up there but I actually have not been there in awhile. But now that I have quit my job, sold my house, and work freelance from home, I have more time and more energy. So I can work on my artwork and I also have more time to go hang out at my favorite online art sites.
Tam’s artwork is mostly made with watercolor crayons and acrylic. So I don’t think she’s so much a collage artist as she is a mixed media artist. But then again, artwork nowdays is getting all mixed together, isn’t it? As new mediums are being created, like stickers/rubber stamps, ink pads/stamps – and with the use of photoshop – its all starting to melt into one glorious mess of art.
Anyway, I found out that she has a free class on her Ning site for her members. Usually she charges for her art workshops (she is one woman who has figured out how to make a living doing artwork) but this one she did as a freebie. Yay! If you want to learn more about drawing/creating artwork of whimsical women then check it out. The free class is called Art, Heart and Healing. It’s free and ongoing so you can view it at anytime, all you have to do is become a member (its free).
I just finished watching the first 2 videos which teach her techniques for creating faces and background textures using watercolor pens, acrylics, ink stamps, and other messy fun stuff. I may have to buy some watercolor crayons and play around with them, as they look like lots of fun. Usually I stay away from watercolor because I find it’s just too hard to control.
